La Fragola
Recipe type: Drink

Strawberry Cocktail! This recipe was demonstrated at a cocktail demonstration at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market during San Francisco Cocktail Week and uses local Philadelphia gin extraordinaire Blue Coat. Way to go local! Here is the original recipe with additional versions. I am sure your first question would be “Has this recipe been tested properly?” I can assure you it has. I would never send out a recipe that didn’t work, I can promise you. For this particular cocktail I was careful to test the original recipe, and then worked up an alternative or two. I think I worked on some other versions as well, but my tasting notes became a bit incoherent at that point – the writing is quite hard to read. I can’t figure out why.
Ingredients
  • VERSION 1
  • 1½ oz Blue Coat Gin
  • ½ oz organic agave syrup (or use simple syrup)
  • ½ oz Lemon juice
  • ½ oz Martini and Rossi Bianco
  • 2-3 organic strawberries
  • Mint sprig
  • VERSION 2
  • 1½ oz Blue Coat Gin
  • ½ oz simple syrup
  • ½ oz Lemon juice
  • ½ oz Martini and Rossi red vermouth
  • 2-3 organic strawberries
  • Mint sprig
  • VERSION 3
  • 1½ oz Blue Coat Gin
  • ½ oz simple syrup
  • ½ oz Lemon juice
  • ½ oz Martini and Rossi Bianco
  • 2 drops of rosewater
  • 2-3 organic strawberries
  • 2 sprigs of Lemon Verbena
Instructions
  1. Versions 1 + 2: Muddle strawberries, syrup, and lemon juice in a mixing glass. Add ice, Blue Coat, Martini and Rossi Bianco and shake vigorously. Strain over ice into a collins glass and top with soda. Garnish with fresh mint sprig. Makes one cocktail
  2. Version 3: Much as before but add one sprig of the lemon verbena to the strawberries while you muddle, to add a bit of verbena flavor to the drink.
