House Cup Coffee Roasters was started in 2017 by Brian Niles right here in Havertown. Brian took some time from roasting his coffee to talk to us about his business and why he is excited to be part of the Oakmont Farmers Market.

How long have you been a farmer or producer of local items?

House Cup was started in June 2017 out of my shed and later moved into a 1,600 square foot space on South Eagle Road which we call a “roasthouse.”

Why did you decide to become a coffee roaster?

After 27 years working in education (administrator, professor and software company owner) I felt it was time to do something different (as well as turning 50 and having another baby) and reduce or eliminate all of the 100k miles per year of travel that my business required of me.

What do you like about making your own coffee?

Who doesn’t like the aromas of coffee, if not the flavor (and caffeine!)

What is your favorite coffee to make?

They all have great characteristics, but our favorites include our Somewhere Blend (named after what we call our house … “Ok, see you Somewhere”), the beautifully nutty Organic Brazil or the chocolaty Colombia and Nicaragua coffees. And who doesn’t like the aromas from our Whiskey’s Gone barrel-aged coffee?

What is your most popular product?

Somewhere Blend, Nicaragua, Sumatra, Recyclable Kcups, Espresso Blend

Where is your farm/ business located?

95 South Eagle Road in Havertown – behind the Wooden Indian Cigar Shop and next to the Manoa Fire Company

What is your typical day like?

Reviewing orders, packaging for delivery or shipment, roasting the next batch (we roast 1-2x per week so it’s always fresh).

Why did you decide to come to Oakmont Farmer’s Market?

We are always looking for ways to immerse ourselves into the Haverford Township community and sharing our coffees with residents.

What will you be bringing to the market over the upcoming season?

Bags of fresh roasted coffees, samples of hot or cold brew coffees and some merch too!

Do you have a personal philosophy or mission about making coffee?

Help people make and serve a better cup of coffee.

What is one thing you really want people to know about your product or business?

Better coffee creates better moments. We simply want a good drink to enjoy at any time of the day without breaking the bank or compromising our taste buds. To accomplish this, House Cup Coffee Roasters offers both fresh, locally-roasted coffee and a variety of tips and suggestions to turn those beans into a cup of awesome.
