NURTURING NATURE FARM
We’re so happy to finally have flowers again! Haverford Township Farmers Market Association is delighted to introduce our new Flower Vendor, Cathy Olsen of Nurturing Nature Farm!

Janet visited the farm at the end of April and found happy plants in the greenhouse, ready for plant-out in the fields. Cathy has a passion for growing healthy plants on healthy soils, and her compost heap attests to her devotion to organic and sustainable growing practices. While the fields were a bit bare in April, the peonies, roses and a wide range of annuals were gearing up for their summer splendor. And for those of you who might have events coming up, Cathy provides bouquets and floral arrangements for parties, dinners, weddings, and other special occasions. Something to look forward to as you plan your social occasions!

Cathy has written to us about her farm, flowers and growing principles:

“You would never run a marathon eating Cheetos™”. We can’t expect our plants and bodies to perform at their best while feeding them junk! We grow everything organically, potted herbs, heirloom tomato plants, pepper plants and beautiful cut flowers on our 21-acre farm in Boyertown, Pennsylvania.

We moved to our farm in 2003 with our four children. It has been a blessing to be able to follow my passion growing plants and flowers. I’m excited to join the Oakmont Farmer’s Market. I will begin the 2018 season with plant starts for your garden. We will be bringing a variety of herbs such as Basil, Rosemary and Parsley. There is nothing like the fresh smell of tomato plants and herbs!

In June, July and August, tons of cut flowers will be blooming – all of your summer favorites, including sunflowers, zinnias and cosmos, to name just a few. In September and October, the dahlias will be in full bloom – they are the show stoppers of fall.

At Oakmont Farmers Market, we’ll sell flowers by the stem or bouquet and you can try your hand at “Make Your Own Bouquet”, a fun and entertaining way to create and give flower arranging a try. We also provide flowers for special occasions.

TRUELOVE SEED COMPANY
Are you starting to plan your 2018 garden? It’s time to buy seeds! Owen Taylor (who brought us such lovely flowers this year) has created Truelove Seeds, specializing in local, rare and heirloom seeds: vegetables, herbs and flowers! Almost all of the seeds are grown by farmers in the Delaware Valley, so now you can support local farmers in your garden as well as at the Oakmont Farmers Market. Check out the website and the amazing stories about the different varieties, how they’ve been sourced and their cultural histories. Fascinating!

Truelove Seeds offers rare, open pollinated, and culturally important vegetable and herb seeds grown by urban and rural farmers committed to community food sovereignty, and sustainable agriculture. Our seeds are rich with story and grown by farmers who weave seed stories into their farm work and community building. Most of our varieties were grown by farmers in the Philadelphia metro area and we feature many heirloom varieties from the Roughwood Seed Collection (Devon, PA) and Slow Food’s Ark of Taste.
